Regenerative medicine & skin quality
Skinbooster
Fine deposits of hyaluronic acid supply the skin with moisture from within – for greater elasticity, smoothed crepey lines and a fresher complexion on the face, neck, décolleté and hands.
Treatable areas
- Facial lines
- Neck
- Décolleté
- Eye wrinkles
- Lip lines
- Backs of the hands
Skinboosters are a treatment to improve skin quality: non-cross-linked or only weakly cross-linked hyaluronic acid – a strongly water-binding sugar molecule produced by the body – is introduced into the skin in the form of many fine deposits. Unlike with classic fillers, the aim is not volume or filling individual lines, but hydration from within: more moisture, elasticity and visibly softened crepey lines.
In addition to the face, the neck, décolleté and backs of the hands in particular can be treated. The effect develops gradually, generally lasts about six to nine months and looks distinctly natural – the skin appears plumper and fresher, without any change to facial expressions or features. Deep lines, volume loss or pronounced skin laxity are not an indication for this method.

Indications
Who it is suitable for
Whether a treatment makes medical sense in your case is something we determine together in a personal consultation. Typical concerns include:
- Dry, dull or tired-looking skin with declining firmness
- Fine crepey lines on the cheeks, around the mouth or below the eye area
- Horizontal lines and loss of elasticity on the neck
- Photoaged, crepey skin on the décolleté
- Thinned, wrinkled skin on the backs of the hands
- First signs of skin ageing, where no build-up of volume is wanted
- Skin that has lost quality due to sun, smoking or stress
- As a complement to other aesthetic treatments, as part of an overall concept
Step by step
How the treatment works
This is how the treatment usually proceeds with us – from the first consultation through to aftercare.
Consultation and skin analysis
We assess the condition of your skin and clarify whether Skinboosters are the right method – or whether another procedure better addresses your concern. You receive full information about the procedure, realistically achievable effects, risks and costs.
Preparation and anaesthesia
The skin is cleansed and carefully disinfected. On request, we apply an anaesthetic cream that takes about 20 to 30 minutes to take effect.
Introducing the hyaluronic acid deposits
The hyaluronic acid is introduced evenly into the upper to middle layer of the skin as many small micro-deposits. We adapt the injection technique, the spacing of the points and the amount to the respective area.
Conclusion and immediate measures
We check the injection points and cool the treated areas. Small wheals or papules at the injection points are normal immediately afterwards and usually recede within hours to days.
Follow-up sessions and review
To build up the effect, two to three sessions about four weeks apart are usually recommended. At the follow-up appointments we assess the development of your complexion and determine when refresh treatments are sensible.

Patient information
Safety & patient information
Responsible treatment includes open information about possible risks and side effects – even when they occur only rarely.
Redness and swelling at the injection points
Very common and generally harmless: immediately after the treatment, the injection points are red and slightly swollen; this usually subsides within hours to a few days and can be eased by cooling.
Papules and wheals
Small, palpable raised areas at the injection points – the freshly placed hyaluronic acid deposits – generally distribute themselves in the tissue within one to three days; on the neck and the backs of the hands occasionally somewhat more slowly. Please do not massage or squeeze them on your own initiative.
Bruises (haematomas)
The many fine injections can cause pinpoint blue marks to form. They are harmless, usually disappear within a few days and can be covered well; blood-thinning medications or certain dietary supplements can increase the tendency.
Feeling of tension and tenderness to the touch
In the first few days the treated areas can feel tense or be tender to the touch – an expression of the water retention and the mechanical irritation. These complaints usually subside quickly and without further measures.
Longer-lasting nodules or irregularities
Occasionally, individual deposits remain palpable for longer or small hardenings form, for example with a very superficial placement. Patience usually helps; bothersome, persistent nodules can be selectively dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase.
Reactivation of cold sores
With treatments on the face, particularly in the mouth region, the injection stimulus can trigger a herpes outbreak in those predisposed to it. In the case of a known tendency to herpes, we discuss preventive medication in advance.
Infections
As with any injection, germs can penetrate despite a sterile way of working and trigger a local infection – recognisable by increasing redness, warmth, pain or pus formation. This is rare but must be treated medically; in this case, please contact us immediately.
Allergic reactions
True allergic reactions to modern hyaluronic acid preparations are rare, as the material is similar to the body’s own; reactions to accompanying substances such as local anaesthetics are possible. Very rarely, a pronounced allergic reaction can occur that requires prompt medical care.
Vascular complications
The accidental injection into a blood vessel with a subsequent circulatory disturbance is the most serious known complication of hyaluronic acid injections. With Skinboosters it is very unlikely owing to the superficial injection technique and the flowable, non-cross-linked material, but cannot be entirely ruled out; anatomical knowledge, a suitable technique and immediately available hyaluronidase are the central safety measures. In the event of sudden severe pain or unusual skin discolouration after the treatment, please contact us immediately.
When we do not treat
In certain situations we do not carry out a treatment, or only at a later time – for your safety.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding – in the absence of sufficient safety data, we refrain from treatment during this time.
- Acute infections, inflammation or open areas of skin in the treatment area (e.g. active herpes, acute acne flare-ups, eczema); the treatment is postponed until these have fully subsided.
- Known allergy or intolerance to hyaluronic acid or to the accompanying substances contained, such as local anaesthetics.
- Active autoimmune or chronic inflammatory conditions that may speak against an injection treatment – here an individual medical assessment is required.
- Known coagulation disorders or treatment with blood-thinning medication; a treatment is carried out only after medical consultation and a careful weighing of benefit and risk.
- A tendency to excessive scar formation (keloids) in the planned treatment area.
- Previous pronounced or delayed reactions to hyaluronic acid injections in the medical history.
- Unrealistic expectations – such as the wish for a build-up of volume or the correction of deep lines, for which Skinboosters are not suitable – or the absence of a sensible treatment indication from a medical point of view.
This information does not replace a personal medical consultation. Before every treatment we inform you individually about the procedure, risks and alternatives.
In depth
Medical details & background
How it works & the evidence
Hyaluronic acid (hyaluronan) is a glycosaminoglycan produced by the body with an exceptional water-binding capacity: one gram can store many times its own weight in moisture. In the dermis it forms, together with collagen and elastin fibres, the extracellular matrix, which gives the skin firmness and elasticity. With increasing age – accelerated by UV radiation, smoking and oxidative stress – the hyaluronic acid content decreases: the skin becomes drier, thinner and more crepey.
Skinboosters address precisely this point: the flowable preparation without the firm gel structure of classic fillers is distributed over an area as many micro-deposits in the upper to middle dermis, where it acts as a moisture reservoir – an effect that topically applied cosmetics cannot achieve in the same way, as their active ingredients barely penetrate the skin barrier. Because the material is barely or not at all cross-linked, the body’s own hyaluronidases break it down more quickly than filler gels – hence the course principle. At the same time, it is fully degradable and could, in the rare event of need, be selectively dissolved with medically applied hyaluronidase; the superficial injection technique makes complications at deeper-lying structures less likely than with volume fillers.
It is discussed in the specialist literature that the introduced hyaluronic acid and the injection stimulus can prompt the connective tissue cells (fibroblasts) to produce more collagen and elastin. The extent of this biostimulatory effect varies from person to person and is not conclusively established scientifically – we therefore present it as a possible additional benefit, not as an assured effect.
The treatment of skin quality with injectable, non-cross-linked or weakly cross-linked hyaluronic acid is internationally widespread and has been investigated in controlled studies and reviews; described there are measurable improvements in skin moisture, elasticity and surface structure with overall good tolerability. The evidence does, however, have clear limits: small numbers of participants, short observation periods, differing preparations and techniques, not infrequently manufacturer funding – and aesthetic endpoints such as a “fresher complexion” can be objectified only to a limited extent. Results of individual studies are therefore not readily transferable to every product, every area and every person.
For practice this means: Skinboosters are an established procedure with a favourable risk profile for improving skin moisture and complexion – concrete guarantees of results or quantifiable improvements cannot be derived from the body of studies. How pronounced the effect turns out to be varies from person to person and depends, among other things, on the initial condition of the skin; we are guided by the recommendations of medical specialist societies and the prescribing information of the preparations used.
Preparing for your treatment
A few simple measures before your appointment help you contribute to the best possible result with as few complications as possible.
- Where possible, avoid intensive sunbathing and the solarium in the days before the treatment; irritated skin should calm down before the session.
- Do not stop blood-thinning medications or anticoagulant painkillers on your own initiative – discuss taking them in advance with us and with your treating physician.
- Certain dietary supplements (such as fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo) as well as alcohol can increase the tendency to haematomas; a time interval before the treatment can be sensible.
- Inform us about your medical history, allergies, previous aesthetic treatments and any tendency to cold sores.
- Where possible, come to the treatment without make-up, or reckon with a thorough cleansing of the skin before the session.
- Allow a buffer of about one to two weeks before important occasions, as papules, redness or small bruises can be visible for a few days.
Aftercare
The right care after treatment supports healing and the result. You will receive individual recommendations from us – as a rule:
- Cool the treated areas carefully where needed, without exerting strong pressure.
- Do not touch, rub or massage the injection points in the first few days, so that the deposits can distribute evenly.
- Avoid intensive exercise, sauna, steam bath and very hot baths for about 24 to 48 hours, as heat can intensify swelling.
- Protect the treated skin consistently from UV radiation (SPF 50+) and avoid intense sun and the solarium in the first week – particularly on the décolleté and the backs of the hands.
- Apply make-up to the fresh injection points no earlier than after 24 hours, in order to keep the risk of infection low.
- Avoid irritating cosmetics, fruit-acid peels, microneedling and similar treatments in the treated area for about a week.
- Drink enough water – good fluid intake supports the moisturising effect.
- Contact us immediately if unusual complaints occur – in particular increasing pain, pronounced redness with warmth, unusual skin discolouration or papules that do not subside after several days.
